WHAT IS PANTHERWATCH?

 

PANTHERWATCH, it is what it sounds like: people, watching for panthers.

 

But it is also more than that. PantherWatch is a state of mind. Whatever you are doing, day or night, alone or with friends and family, if you might notice a panther if it came on through, then you are PantherWatching. Welcome to the club.

 

Additionally, PantherWatch is also an excuse to gather with friends and family, and to let the mind escape the shackles of the screen world and re-engage with the real world: “Hey friend if you’re around fyi we are going to have a beer and a little PantherWatch out on the deck, feel free to stop by!”

 

Founder Victor X. Karate created the Manitowoc County Panther Watch as a way to add a little fun to the world. We do this by documenting and protecting the mysterious panthers of Manitowoc County and beyond!

 

Scholars have debated for centuries the best ways to engage with the mysterious, but at the Manitowoc County Panther Watch, our master scholars have decide the most effective way to document, raise awareness, and protect the mysterious is by pursuing the path of gentle confusion.

 

We may explain some things, but not others. We operate as though our random nonsense is actually common public knowledge, constantly. We may leave out key details, and cloak the mundane details in mystery. We may make it difficult to find satisfying answers, or pose questions which are unanswerable.

 

By carrying our gentle confusion into the world, we hope that seed of confusion will grow into a tree of curiosity and eventually raise awareness of even something as mysterious as the panthers of Manitowoc County and Wisconsin and beyond.

HOW CAN I HELP MAKE THINGS CONFUSING?

 

Our master scholars have identified several ways members and shadow-members can help spread the mystery of PANTHERWATCH, and promote the goal of documenting and protecting the mystery that is panthers.

 

Easy starters ideas include:

 

– Consider leaving our handsome, educational, and free PantherWatch Business Cards in random and amusing locations around the real world! This is an excellent way to allow the lay public to stumble across the mystery of PantherWatch and become intrigued, like “PantherWatch, what is this crap?”

 

-Any time someone wants to make a bet with you on something, offer that the stakes should be: “The loser has to tell xyz person that they thought they saw a panther the other day.”

This is even more enjoyable for all parties involved if both parties know xyz person and know that xyz person is someone who will decide that the bet-loser is apparently some kind of a weirdo, because panthers are obviously super rare in your local area.

Good options for xyz include your mutual coworkers, neighbors, your kid’s youth coach, etc. Anyone who knows the loser well enough to change their opinion from normal to –> “I guess this guy is actually a weirdo??”, but not well enough to guess that you might be walking the path of gentle confusion.

The stakes (mild embarrassment) are real but low, the amusement is mutual for both bettors, and the payoff is that the xyz mark may actually become slightly more aware of panthers!

Eventually, you may even be able to welcome them into the PantherWatch club yourself someday!
